Art Is The Only Language I Have

BHAJJU SHYAM, ISF’S 2017 ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

Acclaimed indigenous artist Bhajju Shyam – of the Pradhan Gonds of central India – will be Indian Summer Festival’s artist-in-residence for 2017. As part of the festival’s free programming, Shyam will interact with the Vancouver public by setting up his easel, or to be more specific, his carpet (Bhajju works seated on the floor) at several public places. Painting on top large format photos of Vancouver cityscapes, Bhajju will infuse them with the forests, animals and supernatural beings from his own storytelling tradition.
