Mohamed Assani in concert
“There’s no denying that this is extraordinary music.” – The Georgia Straight
Join us at a unique musical event followed by a sumptuous breakfast in the stunning garden courtyard of the Ismaili Centre Burnaby. Morning Raga features a music performance by celebrated sitarist Mohamed Assani, accompanied by tabla player Amarjeet Singh.
One of the unique characteristics of Indian music is the assignment of definite times of the day and night for performing Ragas (modes/melodies). It is believed that the Raga can only appear at the height of its melodic beauty if played at the right time of day. Since most concerts take place in the evening, audiences rarely have a chance to listen to morning ragas, thus missing out on a huge repertoire of outstanding compositions.
Unusually, this performance will take place in the morning, allowing Assani to explain and play a morning raga, in the classical Hindustani tradition. The setting will be the beautiful courtyard garden of the Ismaili Centre Burnaby and your ticket includes breakfast following the concert.
ASL is available for this event! Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request ASL services before June 23rd. This venue is wheelchair accessible. Programming is low-vision friendly. For venue description and accessibility information: Ismaili Centre Burnaby.
