Moving Still: Performative Photography in India

Moving Still: Performative Photography in India explores themes of migration, gender, religion and national identity through the lens of performative photography. The exhibition focuses on the photo-based practices of contemporary artists who are rooted in the diversity of cultures within the country, while at the same time engaging in a global dialogue.

Participating artists include Nikhil Chopra, Anita Dube, Gauri Gill, Sunil Gupta, Ranbir Kaleka, Naveen Kishore, Sonia Khurana, Pushpamala N, Tejal Shah, Umrao Singh Sher-Gil, Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II, Kiran Subbaiah and Vivan Sundaram.

Organized by the Vancouver Art Gallery, an initiative of the Institute of Asian Art and curated by Diana Freundl, Associate Curator of Asian Art and Gayatri Sinha, Independent Curator and founder of Critical Collective.

In partnership with Capture Photography Festival, a large photo mural from Naveen Kishore’s work in Moving Still will be presented at the Canada Line Vancouver City Centre Station from April 1 to September 1, 2019.
