Talk and Performance: Omnipresence through the Instrumental with Gurpreet Chana
In dialogue with the material conditions and conceptual concerns of Nep Sidhu’s exhibition Medicine for a Nightmare (they called, we responded), this talk and performance with musician Gurpreet Chana will take place within the Audain Gallery. The artist, Nep Sidhu, will also be present.
Utilizing instinct and skill, sound technologists have helped to propel the transformative study of being through feeling and instrumental materiality. Chana will explore these inheritances through a performance with a variety of instruments. The Hang (a metal sound sculpture) connects the sounds of the Japanese classical Ake Bono scale with steel drum acoustics alongside the hollow bass of the South Indian Ghatham and African Udu drum. The TABLIX (Chana’s digitally integrated tabla), invokes sounds of time-honoured traditions for infinite possibilities of the ancient and the now.
The event is co-presented by SFU Galleries and Indian Summer Festival.
