Communications Manager

The Communications Manager plays a key role in managing the festival’s public relations and marketing campaigns. Working with a dynamic team including management, interns and the Communications Designer, you’ll focus on marketing the festival; identifying new, existing and emerging audiences; managing digital and traditional communications channels; and promoting the organization’s brand.

The ideal candidate has a background in communications and marketing, including event promotions, media relations, social media, web content writing, and general website maintenance. You are a strategic thinker with strong project management skills, the ability to work independently and with a team, and meet tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the implementation of the organization’s communication plan and festival marketing plan, and related budgets.
  • Develop, implement and measure marketing and ticket sales goals, including ongoing monitoring of campaigns and reporting.
  • Build multi-channel media plan and placement, including recommendations for cost effective, targeted advertising and negotiating non-profit rates.
  • Negotiate and manage media sponsorships.
  • Write and edit catchy web and ad copy.
  • Manage contractors and interns as needed, including assigning projects to interns and volunteers.
  • Selecting images and clearing rights as required.
  • Liaise with internal and external designers for print ads, postcards, posters, radio and TV spots, e-newsletters, banner ads, social media graphics and video, etc.
  • Manage paid digital advertising, such as animated and rich media banners, Google Ad Words, and Facebook ads.
  • Develop and implement communications strategies and event-specific marketing plans to reach existing and new audiences.
  • Track benchmarks to measure progress and success of communication plans, including social media analytics, audience surveys, and Google Analytics.
  • Write, coordinate and implement website and social media content, and manage updates and maintenance to the website.
  • Write speaking notes, ad and communications copy.
  • Coordinate the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communications materials such as e-newsletters, press releases, posters, postcards, annual report, etc.
  • Identify and develop relationships with key social media influencers in Vancouver.
  • Monitor and distribute media coverage of festival and organization.
  • Plan and coordinate online and on-site audience surveys.
  • Work closely with publicist to develop press releases, story pitches and coordinate interviews.
  • Identify and build community partnerships for cross promotion.
  • Participate in staff meetings and project teams as required.
